329.16: Wreathy: Abaddon CD

Broken digital synthesis and corrupt textures from Sweden. Low-resolution, sacral melodic themes portray a creeping apocalypse.

Civilization does not end in a flash of light, but in a long, drawn-out suicide.

This recording features a more restrained, ambient and darker Wreathy than heard before on his amazing "Leviathan" debut. Noise, distortion and heavy percussion still plays a predominant part, but the wrath and occasional optimism of Leviathan has left room for a more tearing menace. Abaddon, a.k.a The Destroyer, is one of the angels of the Apocalypse and the king of grasshoppers and demon locusts.

The composition is more complex and challenging than before. The pace is slow and it bears an almost sacral, medieval quality. The instrumentation is also a bit different, being nearly completely electronic, and focusing on digital synthesis (such as wavetables, additive, frequency modulation and granular). Much of the sound design also reappears over the course of the cd, giving it a continuous flow.
